SURF TO THE PINES The Grateful Sled
Teresita Pines Wilderness Camp received new pancake griddles on Labor Day weekend from the Huntington Beach Host Lions of 4-L4. The club from Surf City acquired new lightweight griddles for their world famous pancake breakfasts & rather than scrap the old ones, contacted Lion John Bauer at Teresita Pines & found a grateful home for them. Lions Richard Takakjian, Roy Rinaldi, Steve Christy & David Hackler with a little help from Lion Andy Takakjian of Los Feliz Lions 4-L1, hefted the mighty ancient griddles into the Teresita Pines workshop for cleaning & refurbishing just in time for the camp's open house September 18. "They should be ready to go in no time." said John Bauer, the camp manager, "We really appreciate this donation. It's going to be a big help here at the camp. We're hoping to have more kids up here in the future & the griddles will come in handy."
Lion John commented that attendance has been down, largely due to lack of promotion & awareness of the camp & what it provides. "Special groups & kids & their parents just don't know we exist & the promotion isn't what is was 10 or 15 years ago. We really need to get the word out from the top of the district levels on down & out to the groups we serve." Teresita Pines is an MD facility located near Wrightwood in Angeles National Forest, Lions are encouraged to visit & help out in the camp's maintenance & operation.
